Alan Devonshire.

It seems that every player that played with him at West Ham picks him as their favourite ever player.
I always watched Brooking but maybe I should have paid more attention to Dev.

I was always a Brooking man but never really fully appreciated Devonshire but his peers all put him at number 1

Quality player, even when they was trying to kick lumps out of him. Just let his football do the talking.

As natural a footballer you will ever see.... fuck he was good... was at Villa Park for the semi final with the old man ... one of those performances that just sticks in your mind... even when he came back after his horror injury and was playing on one knee he was better than most.... absolute dream player and joy to watch

Devo was a very good player but you cannot compare his affect on the team to Sir Trev.
STB was a class apart, more often several classes apart fro the team in general. Devo was often the best player in the team but not always. Very gifted and committed

He was magic before his injury. Was still good afterwards but robbed of the electric pace he had beforehand. He used to skin defenders. He would be worth as much as Bale in today's market in his heyday. Did I mention he was good?

Norman. What a night that was!
And he used to nip into our Bookies that we used at Stepney Green on Saturday dinner times, stick his dog bets on, then jump back in his motor and carry on to the home game. "We'll see you over there Al". "See ya later chaps".
Top man. (He owned greyhounds at one time as well I think).

He could accelerate from a standing start, stop dead, jink and accelerate again all with the ball seemingly tied to his shoelaces, no one could defend against him (fairly), the best I ever saw

Just been watching the Boleyn Boys documentary on Sky and he comes across as a very diffident individual, slightly timid even, but he has a very impressive record as a manager at the clubs he's been at,Maidenhead at the moment. So he must have strong leadership qualities to have stayed in the game so long.

Always seemed to be a buzz in the ground when he got the ball. Lightning quick despite the cabbage patches of the day.
Spoilt for choice we were, back in the day.

His close control on mud heap pitches was a joy to behold.
Why didn't he get 50 England caps?
